Understanding FOB Pricing: What Buyers Need to Know
FOB stands for Free On Board — an international trade term that defines the point at which the seller’s responsibility ends and the buyer’s begins. Understanding exactly what FOB pricing includes is essential for comparing quotes and budgeting for your import.
What FOB Includes
When Cargration quotes an FOB price, it includes the vehicle cost, pre-export inspection (7-point), basic cleaning and preparation, export documentation, and loading charges at the port of origin. The vehicle is delivered to the ship’s rail at the named port, cleared for export.
What FOB Does Not Include
Ocean freight charges, cargo insurance, destination port handling fees, import duties and taxes, customs clearance at destination, inland transportation from the destination port, and any modifications or repairs requested by the buyer beyond standard inspection findings.
How to Compare FOB Quotes
When comparing FOB prices between exporters, ensure you check what is included in the inspection scope, whether the price includes minor paint and trim repairs, and what documentation is included. Some exporters charge extra for the export certificate or bill of lading preparation.
At Cargration, all FOB prices are all-inclusive of inspection, documentation, and port loading. The price you see on each listing is the price you pay — no hidden fees or last-minute surcharges.
